Automotive Technician – Mechanical

Job Purpose

The Automotive Technician – Mechanical is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Ground Support Equipment (GSE) through high-quality preventive and corrective maintenance. The role plays a critical part in maintaining operational continuity, minimizing equipment downtime, and upholding the company’s safety and compliance standards. This position requires strong diagnostic capabilities, hands-on technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining equipment performance in a fast-paced aviation support environment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on GSE.
  • Conduct corrective repairs on GSE.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
  • Execute repairs safely and efficiently
  • Use diagnostic equipment, tools, and workshop machinery correctly and ensure they are maintained.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with internal safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Complete job cards, maintenance logs, and all required documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment, including adherence to proper waste-management procedures.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager and Workshop Management with tasks as required, including delegated duties and operational support.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, other departments, and external suppliers.
Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, Maltese, or both.

  • Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Proficiency in mechanical repairs and maintenance of industrial, heavy, or automotive vehicles.

  • Competence in fault diagnostics using modern diagnostic tools and software.

  • Experience in specialized areas—such as engine overhauls, after-treatment systems, hydraulic systems, or pneumatic systems—is considered a significant advantage.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or vehicle repair.

  • Knowledge of industrial vehicles, heavy-duty equipment, or automotive systems.

  • An MCAST qualification or equivalent technical certification is considered an asset.
