Automotive Technician – Body Works

Job Purpose

The Automotive Technician – Body Works is responsible for restoring, repairing, and maintaining the structural integrity and exterior condition of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). The purpose of this role is to ensure all GSE bodywork remains safe, functional, and compliant with operational standards by carrying out accident damage repairs, corrosion treatment, structural assessments, and preventive body maintenance. This position directly supports equipment reliability, safety performance, and operational readiness by ensuring all bodywork repairs are completed to high-quality standards and fully documented for traceability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out all panel beating duties, including dent removal, reshaping, straightening, and structural body repairs on GSE.
  • Assess and evaluate body and frame damage to determine the required repair method and materials.
  • Repair accident-related damage, including structural deformation, cracked panels, and misaligned components.
  • Perform rust removal, corrosion treatment, and other preventive maintenance tasks to extend the lifespan of GSE body structures.
  • Conduct minor fabrication, welding, sanding, filling, and refinishing work as required.
  • Ensure all repairs meet company safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Complete job cards, repair reports, and documentation to maintain full traceability of all work performed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment, including proper waste disposal and handling of materials.
  • Follow all company policies related to safety, security, data protection, and quality assurance.
  • Support the team leader and workshop management by performing additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, Maltese, or both

  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities

  • Effective problem-solving skills, particularly in assessing structural and cosmetic damage

  • Proficiency in vehicle body repairs, including dent removal, panel replacement, and structural alignment

Education and Experience
  • Basic understanding of engine diagnostics and repairs (as listed in the document)

  • Experience in specialised areas such as fiberglass repair, glass replacement, and plastic component repair is considered an asset

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in automotive, industrial, or heavy-vehicle body repair

  • MCAST qualification or equivalent technical certification is considered an advantage

  • Knowledge of industrial vehicles, heavy vehicles, or automotive systems
